The android updates at times might spoil the usage of your smart phones that is why tech people prefer Nexus devices over others as they are the ones which provide pure android experience and the performance is not pulled down by the other operating system. That is why Apple is preferred by many as all updates and operating system is individually prepared for that device and hence performance is really good and lesser bugs are there.
So my personal suggestions to you is do not just compare on paper specifications of a cell phone to another while purchasing it, Rather try and gain knowledge about end user experience and then compare the worth of both.
Hence main aspects that shall be considered while purchasing a smart phone shall be:

Screen on time (battery Life)
Clarity of the camera
Ram management
Processor
After sale services or location of nearest service center.
These are the real things that eventually will satisfy you with your smart phone for a longer duration of time.
