Android One

Google announced to the Android one programme in India to give smartphone in  hands of each person . In India smartphone penetration is just 10% ,to increase it google partnered with three Indian handset makers Micromax, Karbon and Spice .
Android one programme was made to encourage handset makers to make low end smartphones , which are backed by Google services and guaranteed updates for next three years
The first three sets were  Micromax canvas one ,Karbon  sparkle v and spice dream uno . all the handsets are similar .I would like to review canvas A1

Design

Canvas A1 is purely made up plastic. The phone looks very simple and the device is durable and good to hold with soft rounded corners and edges. The phone have a 4.5 inch screen and no navigation keys on the phone . Volume rockers and power button is placed on the right hand side of the device at the back we have the micromax logo and at the bottom of the back android one written .In terms of design Micromax uses camera to differentiate between the three devices. It has a circular metal ring which surrounds the 5MP camera . Canvas A1 has a soft rubberised matte finish back just like spice dream uno 

Display

Canvas A1 has a 4.5 inch FWVWA IPS Display having a resolution of 480x854p. The display is not the best at this price but still its has good viewing angles and outside visibility is also pretty decent .Overall the Display is not excellent but it is good

Hardware

All the Android one smartphones are powered by mideatek Quad core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. ,mali-400 GPU and 1 GB of RAM. Canvas A1 comes with 4GB of internal storage out of which 2.27 GB is allowed to users . It also has a MicroSD card support upto 32 GB. Overall the performance is excellent . I didn't notice any lags while switching between the apps . the phone is buttery smooth and can be compared with some Mid range devices .Canvas A1 supports a 1700 mAh battery which will last u less than a day . 

Software

The biggest advantage of Android one Smatphones is its Software. Canvas A1 comes with Android Kitkat out of the box with no tweaks just like nexus devices . Lollipop update has also been started rolling to the devices though it is very late almost 4 months after it reached nexus devices and even Motorola devices

Camera

Canvas A1 comes with a 5MP rear camera with Led Flash .It can record video in 1080p HD . I was quite impressed with the phones camera performance. It has a 2MP front camera which takes pretty decent selfies and is good for video calling . Overall i would say the camera on Canvas A1 is petty good and at this price it is excellent

Gaming 

I was able to play games like  Temple run 2 ,subway surfers lag free but i did noticed some lags in high end games like Asphalt 8 

Verdict

Canvas A1 is an excellent device for those who want low cost android device. overall the phone is pretty fast and camera is also nice . If google is able to give timely updates to android one devices then I would say these phones are the best phones in entry level segment
